Students from Environmental Health Learning Circle research group of Dr. Shirley Thompson are winning many awards:

  • Asfia Gulruk Kamal received a grant from the Manitoba Alternative Food Research Alliance (MAFRA) SSHRC and the GETS, Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Manitoba to total $14,000 in 2012 in addition to her. University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF) award doctoral award for 3 years of $15,000/year.
  • Mohammed Rony won a provincial scholarship award for $15,000/year for two years.
  • Kipp Fennell won a MITACS/Manitoba Award that totalled $40,000 for field expenses and stipend and the Karen Palidwor award -- First prize $2500
  • Prasid Bhattarai received the University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF) award starting in September 2011 for two years at $12000.
  • Minxing Si obtained in 2011 the Manitoba Hydro Performance Optimization Program grant with Gerdau at more than $15000. He started in September 2009 and graduated in June 2011.
  • Kipp Fennell and Mohammed Rony won the Northern Travel Stipend worth about $2500 each year for several years.
  • Godwin Chan received a Sustainable Development Initiative Fund (SDIF) grant from Manitoba Conservation for work on GIS looking at Corridors between Riding Mountain and Duck Mountain valued of almost $14,000. He defended in 2011.
  • Asfia Gulrukh Kamal won the Environmental Studies Association in Canada (ESAC) 2010 Poster Contest, Montreal, Quebec (cash prize $150) and the 2010 PrioNet poster contest, Ottawa, Ontario (cash prize $50).
  • Asfia Gulrukh Kamal won a Transmedia award for $4000 in 2011.
