Med 1 Immunology:
This interdisciplinary course deals with the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying immunologically mediated diseases.
Immunobiology (72.702):
This course provides a broad perspective of the evolving concepts of the mechanisms underlying the regulation of the immune response.
Immunology Methodology (72.704):
This lecture course is designed to provide an understanding of modern methods used for basic research in Immunology or other biomedical disciplines utilizing immunological techniques.
Selected Topics in Immunology (72.706)
This course was conducted with the participation of mature students. Controversial problems in Immunology were assigned to students. They were requested to read relevant papers, evaluate and present the subject matter to their classmates. Debate and discussion followed by the entire group with the teacher’s participation. The group concluded the debate collectively.
Introductory Immunology (72.707):
This course provides a broad survey of modern immunology, covering such topics as molecular concepts of antigenic specificity, chemistry of antibodies and their interactions with antigens and cells, regulation of the immune response, transplantation and Tumor Immunology.
Molecular Immunology (72.711):
This course covers in depth the structure, molecular biology and function of immunoglobulins, histocompatibility antigens, regulatory factors, receptors and adhesion molecules on cells of the immune system, mechanisms of immunochemical reactins and the immunogenicity of antigens.

1 Discovered the production of antibodies to parasitic organisms in fish [Z Immun Forsch 1965;129:263-267].
2 Performed comparative studies with bacterial endotoxin (LPS), which revealed that mammals are very susceptible, whereas lover animals show significant resistance to intoxication [Can. J. Microbiol 1966:12:1070-71].
3 Orally administered endotoxin was harmless whereas parenterally given endotoxin elicited shock and death in rats [Zbl Vet Med Reihe B 1966:13:570-575. J Path Bact 1968;96:487-491].
4 Endotoxin may be neutralized by antibodies [Z Immun Forsch 1967;132:303-307].
5 Salicylates inhibit various calcifying connective tissue reactions [Arch Int Pharmacodyn 1969;177:211-223].
6 Fatty acids influence soft tissue calcification [Exp Med Surg 1970;18:245-255].
7 Discovered the cytotoxic potential of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) [Science 1973;180:1289-1291].

9 Discovered that the pituitary gland is an immunoregulatory organ [Acta Endocrinol 1978;89:530-537].

PATENTS
On the basis of the above listed discoveries, antibodies against endotoxins 4), tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (7), drug-antibody conjugates (8), bromocryptine (12) gained clinical applications. It was discovered that anti estrogens amplify tumor immunity, which led to more extensive use of these agents (13,20, 22,24, 25, patented). Currently the commercial use of glandular Kallikrein is under way with the participation of The University of Manitoba, who has licensed the patent rights to Sunomune Incorporated (26, US and Canadian patents are underway).
International Patent: A method for the sensitization of cancer cells for killer cell mediated lysis.

Description: Adjuvant treatment with anti-estrogens (e.g. tamoxifen, toremifen) is proposed for the immunotherapy of cancer.
