Colleagues/Associates: My
much appreciated research colleagues.
During
the four decades of my research career I had the good fortune to work with
outstanding scientists and students who shared with me their intellect
and enthusiasm for the scientific problems we addressed together. The colleagues
listed below contributed significantly to the formation of the ideas that
are outlined in these pages and I feel privileged for the opportunity to
share ideas and to work with them. I am very grateful for their contributions
and cherish dearly their friendship.
Andor
Szentivanyi, M.D., Ph.D., University Distinguished Professor, Departments
of Internal Medicine (1970), Pharmacology, Medical Microbiology and
Immunology and Neurology, at the University of South Florida,Tampa, FL,
USA.
He was the past dean of the University of South Florida.
Professor
Andor Szentivanyi received his medical and Ph.D. degrees from University
Medical School of Debrecen in Hungary in 1950.
Dr.
Szentivanyi was world renowned for his studies of beta adrenergic receptor
abnormalities in asthma and allergic disorders.
Professor
Szentivanyi had been the recipient of numerous awards for his scientific contributions
and was an honorary member of several societies.
In
1999 he received the American College of Physicians-American Society of
Internal Medicine Award for Outstanding Work in Science as Related to Medicine.
His
research interests included:
Chemical and biological characterization of cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases
in purified human T-lymphocytes; Analysis of adrenergic mechanisms in the
induction of de novo histidine decarboxylase synthesis by interleukin-3
and granulocyte macrophage colony stimulating factor in hematopoietic progenitor
cells; In vitro studies on the molecular mechanisms involved in the upregulation
of beta adrenergic receptors of human lung cells by lymphocytic protein
factors and developmental interrelationships among the cellular and humoral
components of the immune-neuroendocrine circuitry.
