Labradoodle Care and Maintenance

Feeding

First 6 monthspuppy

Your puppy should only eat good quality puppy chow. If you have purchased your new puppy from a breeder, try and use the same brand they have been using, and then very slowly transition to the brand you plan on using until moving into the next stage.

Do not feed your puppy any people food at this time! Not only can it upset their fussy tummies, but it can cause issues later in life...yes, dogs can develop food allergies!

6 months and older

Now that you have a quickly growing puppy, you will have to ensure that you continue to use a high quality dog food. Although they are still puppies, you can start to transition to an adult food. Transitioning should always be done gradually over a two week period. As well, you can introduce treats, such as banana, carrot and peanut butter (in very small amounts). Commercial treats such as pig's ears and raw hide should be avoided. They are very hard on the digestive sytem and can cause choking. The Poodle part of your Labradoodle may be allergic to corn, so avoid products that have corn listed in the ingredients.

As your dog ages, make sure you keep track of their weight. A chubby dog will have joint and breathing problems later in life.
