The University of Manitoba Undergraduate Chemistry Club is a student chapter of the Chemical Institue of Canada (CIC).
We are located in 134 Parker Building in the Fort Garry Campus. Our organization aims to enhance the undergraduate experience for students in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Manitoba by providing a place where everyone could meet, discuss and promote any chemistry related matters. We provide walk-in tutoring services for any student taking chemistry related courses. We also emphasize awareness of different subdisciplines within the field, possible career and summer prospects, and explanation to any inquiries regarding such.
Members of the Chemistry Club range from second year to pre-graduation students and collectively have taken most of the spectrum of courses offered within our department (and those of the Microbiology and Physics alike) and this reservoir of knowledge is a valuable asset.
Desks (together with the accompanying membership and access to facilities) are offered to honours and majors chemistry or chemistry related undergraduates (biochemistry, biotechnology and other joint programs) in the first week of classes during the Fall Term of every year. Other perks exists but are not disclosed to non-members to prevent abuse.
The organization operates for the whole year. Summer events such as beach day, camping and outdoor team sports should be expected. Winter events such as movie night, bowling and socials are the usual.
The club supports active lifestyle and healthy living. As of this year, teams for the university intramurals such as co-ed volleyball and co-ed dodgeball has been established.
An executive committee is elected from the pool of members (in good standing) towards the end of each academic year. The existence of other position varies from year to year, e.g. webmaster, SSA liason, etc.
