CDESG at the 2012 CEA Meetings in Calgary

As in years past, the CDESG will be organizing sessions and hosting a keynote speaker as part of the CEA Meetings. This year's meetings are in Calgary from June 8-10, 2012. Our call for papers available in English as well as French .

PEP-Laval Intensive Graduate School in Development Economics

In association with Université Laval, PEP is proud to announce the second edition of the PEP-Laval Intensive Graduate School in Development Economics. Three six-day courses will provide flexible, advanced and accelerated training in Impact Evaluation, Development Policy Modelling and Poverty Measurement and Analysis. A preliminary distance training component will be provided in May, 2012. The actual training workshop will take place at Université Laval (Quebec City, Canada) between June 3rd and 23rd 2012. The courses will be offered in English only. A certificate of continued education will be granted by Université Laval upon completion of each of these courses. Under some conditions, these courses can also be credited towards the completion of a University degree program. Open Call for Editors: European Journal of Development Research

The EJDR is seeking applications and expressions of interest for the following two vacancies in the editorial team: 1. Associate Editor with a specialisation in Economics (bilingual in French and English) We have a vacancy for an Associate Editor, with an academic expertise in Development Economics. The candidate will need to be an established academic researcher with a strong track record of publications in mainstream academic Economics and Development Studies journals. As EJDR also accepts papers in French, the candidate will need to be fluent in written French (and preferably have published in French), in addition to being able to manage and evaluate English language articles. Candidates must be willing to contribute up to half a day per week to managing journal submissions, and be well organised, with a good network of contacts to depend upon to review articles. There is no remuneration for this position, although the EJDR makes available some funds to permit editors to attend selected important academic conferences where they are expected to promote the EJDR. Associate Editors report to the Editor-in-Chief. This appointment will initially be for a trial period of 1 year, with a view to extending this for a further two years upon mutual agreement. 2. Book Review Editor EJDR also has a vacancy for a Book Review Editor. The Review Editor will be the main contact between publishers and the EJDR. The task of the Book Review Editor is to actively seek out potential reviewers for books that have been received, and to manage and edit book reviews that are submitted to ensure that they are topical, concise, authoritatively written and objective. In addition to managing the book reviews, the candidate will be sometimes invited to act as an ad hoc associate editor, managing specific journal submissions that fit their academic expertise. The candidate will need to be an established academic researcher with a strong track record of publications. Candidates must be willing to contribute up to half a day per week, with a good network of contacts to depend upon to review books. This appointment will initially be for a trial period of 1 year, with a view to extending this for a further two years upon mutual agreement. Applications of interest should be made by February 1 2012 by email to Maja Bucar, Head of EADI's Publications Sub-Committee, including the following information: 1. A complete academic CV; 2. A letter from the head of department indicating that their support of the application, indicating that they are in principle willing to support their active participation in the journal for a potential period of 3 years. Applicants for Book Review Editor should have an explicit agreement from their employers that they are willing to absorb the overhead costs associated with receiving and sending books for review. 3. 2011 Albert Berry Prize Announcement

World Economic History Congress 2012 (Stellenbosch, South Africa)

The International Economic History Association (IEHA) will host the XVIth World Economic History Congress from 9 to 13 July 2012 in Stellenbosch, South Africa. It will be the first time that this congress will be hosted in Africa, and the theme - "Roots of Development" - reflects the importance that lessons from Economic History can play in the world's currently developing regions. The picturesque town of Stellenbosch is the second oldest in South Africa after Cape Town, and hosts one of the continent's oldest and most prestigious universities.
