RESEARCH:
Training and practical experience with James W. Fowler’s model of “faith development.” Used in an unpublished paper, “James W. Fowler: Stages of Faith Development” (July, 1978) written in lieu of a Master’s thesis for entry into the Ed.D program at the University of Toronto.
In-depth interviews with more than forty Winnipeg high school students regarding the impact of a Values Program on their lives. Based on these interviews and nine weeks of participant-observation, a comprehensive questionnaire was designed and administered to the total student population. The questionnaire was scored and the results tabulated on computer. It was from this pool of research data that the critical evaluation of the school’s Values Program took shape as my doctoral dissertation. The thesis, with some reworking, was to have been published. Unfortunately (in terms of publication), I was immediately assigned to St. Paul’s High School, Winnipeg, as Director (Chief Administrator), a position I held until August, 1988.
In the Fall of 1988, the Young Adult Study of the Jesuit Centre for Faith Development and Values began. It was a four year, longitudinal study of the “faith development” (using James W. Fowler’s model and methodology) in young adults as they moved from high school through university undergraduate work. A report on the research appeared in “Faith Development in Young Adult Catholics” in Insight, No. 4, 1991, pp. 56-73.
