AWARDS AND RECOGNITION:

 

- Elected as a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute (ACI, 2022). A Fellow shall have made out-standing contributions to the production or use of concrete materials, products, and structures in the areas of education, research, development, design, construction, or management. In addition, a Fellow shall have made significant contributions to ACI through committees and/or local chapters.

 

- Elected as a Fellow of the International Institute for FRP in Construction (IIFC, 2021). IIFC Fellows are the highest class of membership of the IIFC. They are senior members of the IIFC, who made outstanding contributions to the advancement of FRP composites in construction in at least one of the following two categories: (i) Research and development to advance the state-of-the-art in composites science and technology; (ii) Application and practice to promote unique and broader application of composites.

 

- Invited Keynote Speaker, 8th International Conference on Advanced Composite Materials in Bridges and Structures (ACMBS-8), August 5, 2021.

 

- Best Presentation 11th International Structural Engineering and Construction Conference, July 26-31, 2021.

 

- Certificate of Appreciation for dedication to NSERC as Co-Chair of the Civil, Industrial and Systems Engineering Evaluation Group (2021).

 

- Recipient of the 2020 Mete A. Sozen Award for Excellence in Structural Research, American Concrete Institute (ACI). This prestigious award, originated in 1970, is given to the author or authors of a peer-reviewed paper published by the Institute that describes a notable achievement in experimental or analytical research that advances the theory or practice of structural engineering and, most importantly, recommends how the research can be applied to design. The award need not be presented each year.

 

- Outstanding Reviewer for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Journal of Composites for Construction (2018). Each year, ASCE journal editors select up to ten reviewers as Outstanding Reviewers. The reviewers are selected based on the quality and timeliness of their reviews during the past year. .

 

- Elected as a Fellow of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE-2016). The CSCE has annually elected a number of engineers to the grade of Fellow in recognition of their excellence in engineering and their services to the profession, to society and to Canada.  

 

- Recipient of the 2015 University of Manitoba Merit Award for Research, Scholarly Work and Other Creative Activities (University of Manitoba).

 

- Recipient of the 2013-2014 Graduating Class Award for Excellence in Teaching Civil Engineering (University of Manitoba). Students in their graduating year in the Faculty of Engineering have the opportunity to nominate instructors, who have shaped their academic learning experience, for awards that recognize these instructors' teaching excellence.

 

- Tier II, Canada Research Chair in Durability and Modernization of Civil Structures, NSERC (2011-2016). NSERC-CRC Chair is awarded to outstanding researchers of national and potential international stature who can bring an innovative perspective to the university in carrying out and managing research and in training highly qualified personnel (HQP). The chair holder must be recognized as outstanding in comparison to their research peers. This NSERC–CRC was originally awarded in 2006 for an initial five-year term (2006–2011), then was successfully renewed for a second five-year term (2011–2016).

 

- Award of Recognition from the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE-2010). In recognition of the many contributions as Technical Program Chair of the 2010 CSCE Annual Conference.

 

- Nominated for the University of Manitoba Rh Award (2009). This award is established to recognize academic staff who are early in their research careers and who displayed exceptional promise, high qualities of innovation and unusual stimulation to research colleagues in their own and related disciplines.

 

- Project Leader in the Canadian Network of Centers of Excellence on Intelligent Sensing for Innovative Structures – ISIS Canada (2007-2009) and currently a Project Leader in ISIS Canada Resource Centre (2009-2014).

 

- Awarded a Tier II, Canada Research Chair in Advanced Composite Materials and Monitoring of Civil Infrastructures, NSERC (2006-2011). NSERC-CRC Chair is awarded to outstanding researchers of national and potential international stature as explained above.

 

- Award of Recognition, presented by the prime Minister of Canada (2006). In recognition of receiving the Canada Research Chair.

 

- Award of Excellence, presented by the Ontario Ministry of Public Infrastructure Renewal (2005) for expert contributions to the 1st Infrastructure Technologies, Management and Policy Specialty Conference.

 

- Post-Doctoral Fellowship- (2000-2001) - University of Waterloo ($30,000 CAD /year).

 

- Ph.D. Scholarship- (1995-1998) - Government of Egypt ($30,000 CAD /year).

 

- Graduate Fellowships- (1990-1995) - Menoufiya University, Egypt

 

- Undergraduate Distinction Award - (1985-1989) - (Top student ), Menoufiya University, Egypt.
