Talwin Morris Book Design

"A brief look at the work of Talwin Morris with publishing houses around the turn of the century." This project is centered around works held by the University of Glasgow Library Special Collection. This site contains: a brief biography; a look at the publishing house Blackie and Sons; an explanation of how books are bound and decorated; a brief examination of the Glasgow Four; and a short appraisal of the main stylistic trends which influenced Morris' book design, that of Japonism, The Glasgow Style, Symbolism and Art Nouveau. A student project completed in 2001 by Louise Fletcher in completion of the Multimedia Course in the Humanities Advanced Technology and Information Institute at the University of Glasgow. While the background material is extremely useful, none of the examples provided show citation evidence that they were in fact designed by Talwin Morris and seem to be included at the discretion of the site's author.
