• What is does

The Fluor-S MultiImager uses a cooled CCD camera to capture and quantify visible signal from samples labeled with chemiluminescent or fluorescent tags, from gels, filters, plates, or autoradiograms. Samples can be illuminated from above or below using either UV or white light, so almost anything that can be seen can be captured as an image, and, more importantly, quantified. Bio-Rad Quantity One Software can automatically detect bands, spots or colonies. Data can be exported to a spreadsheet, and images stored as 8-bit or 16-bit .tif files. This device is NOT for routine image capture, or for taking pictures of EtBR-stained gels! It is for quantiification of signal.

• Getting started

The Fluor-S imager is operated from a WindowsNT workstation. Because there are many users, individual user accounts have been set up to ensure security and stability.  To keep the configuration simple and reliable, only a minimal set of programs has been installed. This is NOT a general purpose computer. The idea is to acquire your data and export it to another computer for analysis at your leisure (see items 4 &5 under General Procedures).
1. First read all parts (1-5) under General Prodedures below. Do not proceed any farther until you have done so!
