Research Interests

I am a syntactician and am particularly interested in the interface between syntax and morphology on the one hand and syntax and pragmatics on the other. I work on Persian* and my research has involved looking at the syntax of noun phrases, the Ezafe construction, the direct object marker (-ra), and control constructions. I have also worked on the syntax of reduplication and have collaborated with Diane Massam on the syntax of proper names.  My recent publications include a book on Determiners that I co-edited with Ileana Paul and Martina Wiltschko, and a slim book on prescriptivism that is addressed to a general audience and that can be found here.

*Persian is also known as Farsi. Debates about which to use as the name of the language can be found here.

Courses

During the academic year 2012-13 I am teaching Ling 1200 Introduction to Linguistics in both terms.  I am also teaching Ling 3120 Syntactic Theory and Ling 1420 Language and Gender in the first term, and Ling 3820 Nominalization in Syntax in the second term.
