Prior to working at the University of Manitoba, Dr. Hechter worked as a secondary level physics, chemistry, biology and general science teacher (and basketball coach, often with his daughter by his side) at the University of Winnipeg Collegiate for 11 years, and as an adjunct professor at the University of North Dakota. In 2001, Richard was awarded the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence at a ceremony in Ottawa. Dr. Hechter is presently serving on the National Board of ASTE and as the Past-Director for the North Central Association of Science Teacher Educators (NC-ASTE)
