Lips

Some things the lips do in speech:

• Both lips close completely, for sounds like [p], [b], and [m].
• The lower lips touch or approach the upper teeth, for sounds like [f] and [v].
• The lips are rounded, for sounds like [u], [o], and [w].

Sounds that are made with the lips are called labial sounds.
