About Horace Luong
Horace was born and raised in Dartmouth,
Nova Scotia. He completed a BSc
(Honours) at Dalhousie University in 2003 and a Ph.D. at the University of
Victoria in 2008. Spending almost
five years under the supervision of Professor Tom
Fyles, Horace conducted research in the area of solid-phase
synthesized ion channels. Following
his graduate studies, he then worked with Professor Cornelia Bohne (University of Victoria) for a short
post-doctoral fellow term before relocating to the University of Manitoba.
While Horace was living in British
Columbia, he challenged himself by entering the world of competitive
ballroom dancing. Having trained
with many of the exceptional ballroom and latin
dance teachers in Vancouver, he and his partners competed in British
Columbia and in California.
For over two decades, Horace has been
training in tai
chi as a martial and healing art.
He enjoys practicing the soft, flowing forms of Yang and Sun styles
as well as the explosive Chen style.
Horace has brought his love for ballroom dance and tai chi
to the University of Manitoba, where he currently teaches tai chi and
ballroom dance classes.
