Research Thrusts

Surfaces and ultrathin films. This research thrust will focus on the development and characterization of surfaces and extremely thin films. The research falls into the following areas:

New dielectric materials for nanoelectronic devices
(Buchanan and Thomson)

Electrochemically-directed self assembly
(Freund and Thomson)

Self-assembled monolayer-based sensors

(Buchanan, Freund, Kraatz and Thomson)

Mass spectrometry sample targets for integrated biomolecule isolation and characterization
(Perreault, Kraatz and Freund)

Environmental crystallization of uranium oxide
(Hawthorne and Thomson)

The study of electronically conducting polymers
(Abd-El-Aziz and Freund)

Coatings and surface-modification technologies
(Shanker and Chaturvedi)
