Molecular Microbiology of Rhizobium

The overall goal of my research is to understand how rhizobia live in the soil as free living organisms and interact with legume plants prior to nodule formation.  To approach this problem we are investigating the catabolism of carbon compounds which may be derived, or exuded, from plant roots as well as how rhizobia are able to cope with stresses that may be encountered within the rhizosphere.
