BIRCH
BIRCH  Administration
Email notification
update April 24, 2016

Some long-running programs on BIRCH (eg. those that install BLAST databases) will send an email message to the BIRCH Administrator upon completion. This will only work, however if your computer runs an email server. If your computer doesn't run an email server, programs will still run and produce results correctly, but you won't get an email notification when they are complete.

Note: For the purposes of BIRCH, only outgoing email needs to be enabled. None of the BIRCH system, at this time, utilizes incoming email, so you might want disable incoming email to eliminate a potential security target.
