BIRCH - New installation

Follow these steps to do a new installation of BIRCH. Most of the steps are automated by scripts, but you will have to edit some text files to give the scripts names of files and directories. If you are updating an existing BIRCH installation, go to Update an existing installation.

  1. Make sure Java and Python are installed on your system.
  2. Create a BIRCH Administrator's account.
  3. Download BIRCH files
  4. Set file paths in scripts and source files
  5. Choose values for environment variables
  6. Change URLs, directory names etc. in documentation
  7. Merge BIRCH and local documenatation
  8. Configure Administrator's account to use BIRCH
  9. Generate GDE menu files
  10. Install FASTA packages
  11. Test your installation
  12.  Edit local documentation files
