******************************* * * * Template Definition Popup * * * ******************************* After the gel-format file has been selected and (optionally) edited, a Template-Definition window is popped-up. With this pop-up, one can specify a new template or decide to use an existing template. To use an existing template, hit the "Use existing template" button at the bottom of the pop-up; the window disappears, and template-file browser appears; one may then select an existing template-definition file. Otherwise, use this pop-up to create a new template-definition file. Here's how it works. The header field at the top must begin with "#"; the rest may be left blank or filled with any meaningful comment or identification info. The mobility values are filled this way. Move the pointer into the image. Depress MB1. Two blue bands appear, one extends from the pointer position to the right. A smaller appears along the left axis. While MB1 remains depressed, the larger band is dragged to follow the pointer, and the smaller moves up or down the left axis maintaining the same y position as the larger band. When MB1 is released, the bands are fixed and the current y value appears in the mobility list in the pop-up. These mobilities are kept in ascending order. The mobility numbers may not be edited, but they can be deleted. Pressing the "reset" button (described below) clears all mobility values and base-pair vales as well as removing all blue bands from the image. To remove a single mobility, click MB1 in the index window (labeled 0 to 15) just to the left of the mobility value; the corresponding blue bands disappear, and the mobility/base-pair entries disappear, and the mobility/base-pair lists are revised to reflect the deletion. A minimum of 4 mobilities is required; a maximum of 16 is allowed. The base-pair values must be typed in. A value may be entered at any time after a mobility value appears. The best time to enter base-pair values is after all mobilities have been declared. When entering a base-pair number, move the pointer to the window and type the number. Do NOT hit return; just move the pointer. Checks will be made later to confirm they are in descending order and are greater than zero. Toward the bottom, the path field defaults to that specified in the app-defaults file; it may be changed to any existing path. Below the path field, the file field may contain almost anything, but it must suffixed with ".tmpl". There are several buttons toward the bottom: "OK" Checks the mobility and base-pair data; if good, uses these to create the file. Note: if the file already exists, it will NOT be overwritten. "Cancel" Popdown the window; ignore any entries. "Reset" Reset all entries in the pop-up to default values. "Use existing template" Popdown the window; ignore any entries; popup the template-definition browser. * * *
