2.9 File-Naming Conventions

Table 2.2 lists the filename extensions used by DNA/GUI.

.imp -- A file that has been imported. The file ending with the .imp extension points to the file containing the actual image data. Alternatively, the file may contain the image data; this is true of lane images. An Import file need not be so suffixed since the DNA/GUI keys on header information. Likewise, a file named with this suffix need not be an Import file. However, output files generated by DNA/GUI will conform to the descriptions listed here.

.x -- A file containing image data which was not originially in the import format.

.w -- A spatially normalized image file.

ln# -- A lane-image file where # refers to the lane number.

.p#.dat -- A file containing integrated profile data for lane #.

.blot -- A gel-format file defining the gel loading order and lane labels.

.tmpl -- A template-definition file containing the size and location of the bands that define the template.

testimage.x.imp -- An Import file containing relevent information about the image.

testimage.x -- A file containing image data.

testimage.x.w.imp -- An Import file for a normalized image.

testimage.w -- The file containing normalized image data.

testimage.ln23.w -- The normalized lane-image for lane 23.

testimage.p9.dat -- The one-dimensional integrated profile data for un-normalized lane 9.
