_A_u_t_o_c_o_r_r_e_l_a_t_i_o_n _F_u_n_c_t_i_o_n

_D_e_s_c_r_i_p_t_i_o_n:

     This function is generic; method functions can be written to
     handle specific classes of objects. Classes which already have
     methods for this function include: 'gls' and  'lme'.

_U_s_a_g_e:

     ACF(object, maxLag, ...)

_A_r_g_u_m_e_n_t_s:

  object: any object from which an autocorrelation function can be
          obtained. Generally an object resulting from a model fit,
          from which residuals can be extracted.

  maxLag: maximum lag for which the autocorrelation should be
          calculated.

     ...: some methods for this generic require additional arguments.

_V_a_l_u_e:

     will depend on the method function used; see the appropriate
     documentation.
