_E_x_t_r_a_c_t _t_h_e _L_o_g_a_r_i_t_h_m _o_f _t_h_e _D_e_t_e_r_m_i_n_a_n_t

_D_e_s_c_r_i_p_t_i_o_n:

     This function is generic; method functions can be written to
     handle specific classes of objects. Classes which already have
     methods for this function include: 'corStruct', several 'pdMat'
     classes, and 'reStruct'.

_U_s_a_g_e:

     logDet(object, ...)

_A_r_g_u_m_e_n_t_s:

  object: any object from which a matrix, or list of matrices, can be
          extracted

     ...: some methods for this generic function require additional
          arguments.

_V_a_l_u_e:

     will depend on the method function used; see the appropriate
     documentation.
