In the NC model, each device is an autonomous, networked device. Each device is represented as an object across the network. This model is intrinsicly reliable, because of its simplicity. Among its advantages:
 

• ANY USER can access ANY DEVICE from ANY TERMINAL
• hardware conflicts are avoided, because hardware control resides on each device
• Interaction with device is independent of server hardware or operating system
• no performance load in server
• changes in server configuration have no effect on devices
• seamless integration of device control software with user's desktop

• monitor your experiment from your home or office
• critical devices like freezers, growth chambers, or incubators send you an email or telephone message when they fail
• microscopes
