Treetool reads a treefile generated by PHYLIP or PHYLO_WIN, and allows the user to edit the tree. Treetool allows the user to:

The example below shows a tree constructed by fastDNAml from plant genes encoding phenylalanine ammonia lyase.

In treetool, nodes can be 'grabbed' by holding down the left mouse button on a red dot and dragging to the desired position. Releasing the mouse button sets the branch in place. The root of the tree is represented by the green square. Labels can also be moved by dragging and dropping.

Trees can be saved to in the File menu as PostScript files. Postscript can also be directly printed.
