Note: Uninstall the Command Anti-Virus from the machine by following these instructions.
1. Close all applications.
2. Open Command AntiVirus (double click on the small yellow C found on the lower right side of the taskbar), click on preferences, then active protection and uncheck the box that enables DVP (current screen will turn gray). Click ‘ok’ and close box. Reboot machine.
3. Uninstall Command AntiVirus (click on start, settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Install/Uninstall). Highlight Command AntiVirus and click on the add/remove button. Click ‘ok’ when it says uninstall completed.
4. Using your favorite file editor (ie. Windows explorer etc.) go to C:\program files\Command Software\F-prot and delete all files within the subdirectory if applicable (not necessary to delete the Command Software or F-prot subdirectory).
Note: You may
encounter a few problems deleting these files;
- If the file will
not delete because it says access denied, then shut down and reboot and
try again.
- If the file says
it is read only then right click on the file and go to properties and remove
the check mark from read only.
5. Reboot the machine again.
We are going to switch to a FREE anti-virus. As of this document the site is updating their registration database so if you go to their site and it says they are still working on the registration database skit to step 7.
6. You can now install the new software “Inoculate” by Computer Associates. In Netscape go to http://antivirus.cai.com and click on Download Free Anti-Virus Software. Fill out the form and submit it. Shortly after you will receive a message with your customer number.
7. Note: before you begin get a blank diskette which will be needed later. Go to L:\public\inoculate and copy and paste IPEsetup.exe to C:\
8. Double click on C:\IPEsetup.exe to execute.
9. Once the Inoculate screen comes up, click on NEXT, NEXT again and then I AGREE
10. Click on Typical and
then NEXT
11. If you were able to
register, enter your Customer Number, if not click on I’ll Register Later.
12. Click on No, do not display the ‘Read Me’ file and then NEXT
13. You will now be on a screen that says Yes, create a reference disk - place the diskette in drive A and click NEXT (be sure to clearly label the diskette for future use).
14. Click OK. Remove disk and click Finish.
15. It will now scan your hard drive for viruses.
16. Reboot your system.
17. Now since you are at the machine it would be a good idea to backup the registry file. Click on Start/Run and type REGEDIT and click on okay.
18. Click on Registry/export registry file
19. Type the file name YYMMDD (i.e. 010131) and click on save. Your registry file is now saved for backup purposes.

Installation Procedure

6. You can now install the new version through umsetup (click on start, run, type umsetup and clock ok). Select Strategic Applications and click ok. Select TEST VERSION ONLY F-prot.... and click ok. Answer yes to overwrite directories. Click ok to launch Command AntiVirus.
7. Highlight Scan Hard Drives (by clicking on it once) and click on properties. Change the action from ‘report’ to ‘disinfect/query’.
8. Click ‘ok’ and then click on the ‘update deffiles’ button. When asked if you would like to see the log, click no.
9. Highlight ‘scan hard drives’ and click ‘execute task’. This will run the scan on your hard drive to check for viruses.
Update Command Anti-Virus Def Files
Go into command prompt by double-clicking
Command Anti-virus icon on menu tray
select preferences
select advanced
select Update Deffiles Now tab
select add button
in site path type in ftp://ftp.cc.umanitoba.ca/appltech/f-prot/
then select ok again two times to get out.
then hit the Update Deffiles button

I LOVE YOU virus
CAUTION: TO PREVENT REINFECTION
This virus renames many files, any
of these renamed files can reinfect
your system.
We strongly recommend that you
1) Get the latest Deffiles posted

2) Create a task that scans all files/file
extenstions. You can do that
with the following steps:
- In the Command AntiVirus main screen,
click on "Create New Task" button
- In the Create New Task dialog box,
type in "scan all files"
(without quotes)
- Click OK
- The Properties Screen will display.
In the Action to Take drop-down
box,
select "Disinfect".
- Under Drives/Paths to scan, make
sure that "Select all hard drives" is
checked ( This is the default
setting).
- In the File Type section, select
"All Files"
- Click on the "Execute Task" button
on the main screen to begin the task
- Repeat a few times a day.
