Professional Summary of Kelvin Seifert:

Preliminary Thumbnail Sketch
Since 1974, I have been a professor at the University of Manitoba. For most of the time since 2003, I have also been the head of the Department of Educational Administration, Foundations, and Psychology at this university. Currently I teach introductory educational psychology at the Bachelor of Education level, and qualitative research methods and lifespan development in the Master's program in adult education. These activities are described to a limited extent at the website for the Faculty of Education. That website also has a page with further information and a picture of me. But here is also another picture of me:

Detailed Information About my Professional Career
For this, see my curriculum vitae at the end of this page.

Quick Summary of My Current Professional Interests
My current professional interests and scholarship focus on investigating alternatives to commercial textbooks in teaching introductory courses--especially introductory educational psychology. In the past I have also studied peer relationships among preservice teacher education students. Even further in the past I did research about students' and parents' informal, taken-for-granted "theories" about children and childhood, and how all of these affect the education and welfare of children and teachers. And even further back--way back when I began as an academic--I studied the challenges and trajectories faced by men who chose careers in early childhood education, and what their experiences implied about gender roles and relationships. (If you can find a common link among these long-term changes in my interests, please let me know!)
