Moulds

The creation of identical moulds and templates allowed for the standardized manufacture of many ceramic wares. Moulds for bowls and other open forms were fitted on potters’ wheels. Precisely weighed slabs of clay were pressed into these moulds while the wheel turned.  To insure virtually identical results a template would be used to even out the walls.
