    Award Winning Students

    Students from Environmental Health Learning Circle research group with
    supervisor Dr. Shirley Thompsonare are winning many awards in 2011.

    - Durdana Islam won the SSHRC Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGS) Doctoral
    award in May 2011 providing $35,000 per annum for three years + travel of
    $6,000 per year.

    - Kipp Fennell won the Karen Palidwor award -- First prize.$2500

    - Mohammad Rony and Prasid Bhattarai, both received the University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF) award staring in September 2011 for two years at $12000.

    - Asfia Gulrukh won the University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF)
    award doctoral award starting in May 2011 for 3 years.

    - Minxing Si obtained in 2011 the Manitoba Hydro Performance Optimization
    Program grant with Gerdau at more than $15000. He started in September 2009
    and graduated in June 2011.

    - Durdana Islam and Kipp Fennel won the Northern Travel Stipend worth about $2500 each.

    - Godwin Chan received a Sustainable Development Initiative Fund (SDIF) grant from Manitoba Conservation for work on GIS looking at Corridors between Riding Mountain and Duck Mountain valued of almost $14,000. He will be defending in 2011.

    - Durdana Islam won the Environmental Studies Association in Canada (ESAC)
    2011 Poster Contest, Fredericton, New Brunswick (cash prize $150).

    - Asfia Gulrukh won the Environmental Studies Association in Canada (ESAC)
    2010 Poster Contest, Montreal, Quebec (cash prize $150) and the 2010 Prionet
    poster contest, Ottawa, Quebec (cash prize $50).

    - Asfia Gulrukh and Durdana Islam each won a Transmedia award for $4000 in
    2011.
