July 13, 2016  The first tests of the new multipass discharge cell iat the Canadian Light Source are a success!  We have light! Thanks to our collaborator and friend Marie-Aline Martin-Drumel who joined us in Saskatoon from Harvard-Smithsonian to make this week successful. June 20, 2016  Wenhao Sun, Aimee Bell and Dr. van Wijngaarden travel to U. Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) for the week long International Symposium on Molecular Spectroscopy.  The group will present two talks.May 19, 2016 The renovation of 112 Parker which houses our cavity-based microwave specrometer is finally complete! We’re very excited to be in our new space! May 16, 2016  We welcome Issiah Byen Lozada to the group for the summer.  He will be working on fluorinated benzaldehydes to determined their structures. May 2, 2016 Aimee Bell, Omar Mahassneh and Dr. van Wijngaarden travel to Saskatoon to attend the Annual Users Meeting of the Canadian Light Source.  Aimee and Omar both presented posters of their work.  Aimee will spend the summer in Saskatoon building our new experiment: A multipass dc discharge gas cell. December 23, 2015: Our latest manuscript using automated assignment strategies to assign synchrotron IR spectra has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Molecular Spectroscopy. November 24, 2015: A portion of Dr. van Wijngaarden’s sabbatical research is accepted for publication in Astronomy and Astrophysics.  This was a collaboration with researchers at the Astrophysics Institute at the University of Cologne and the Max Planck Institute for Radioastronomy in Bonn, Germany. November 19, 2015: Wenhao Sun and Omar Mahassheh ae recognized at the Department Awards Banquet.  These two have received $30 000 in awards over the past 2 years and are 2 of the 9 current holders of Faculty of Science Studentships in the Department!  Great job Omar and Wenhao!November 6, 2015: Omar Mahassneh, Wenhao Sun and Dr. van Wijngaarden travel to the University of Waterloo to attend the Symposium on Chemical Physics.  The group presented 3 posters containing their recent results. October 29, 2015: Aimee Bell presents her 4th year thesis project on the synchrotron far IR spectra of fluorophenols at the VP Research Poster competition. October 13, 2015: The MSc work of our visiting student Laize Andrade is accepted for publication in the Journal of Physical Chemistry A.  This was a great project alongside our Brazilian collaborator Dr. Matheus Freitas. July 14, 2015: Dr. van Wijngaarden travels to the Canadian Light Source in Saskatoon for a week of experiments to characterize the far IR spectrum of thietanone. June 21, 2015: Susanna Stephens and Dr. van Wijngaarden travel to U. Illinois to present talks at the International Symposium on Molecular Spectroscopy.  The research from the vW lab is featured in 4 talks! April 10, 2015: Our manuscript on the application of evolutionary algorithms to high resolution synchrotron IR spectra was accepted for publication in the upcoming special issue of Journal of Molecular Spectroscopy on Synchrotron-based spectroscopy. This is a collaboration with Prof. Leo Meerts at Radboud University of Nijmegen, Netherlands. February 26, 2015: Our manuscript on SSO in collaboration with researchers at the University of Cologne, Harvard-Smithsonian, and SOLEIL was accepted for publication in the upcoming special issue of Journal of Molecular Spectroscopy on Synchrotron-based spectroscopy. December 1, 2014: Dr. van Wijngaarden travels to Lavras, Brazil to present the group’s work at an international workshop entitled: Frontiers in Computational NMR and IR spectroscopy in Chemistry. November 17, 2014: Our manuscript on OSSO in collaboration with researchers at the University of Cologne was accepted for publication in Journal of Molecular Spectroscopy. November 10, 2014: Felix Chen’s article on rotation-vibration-inversion spectra of silacyclobutane from the Canadian Light Source synchrotron was accepted for publication in Journal of Molecular Spectroscopy. November 14, 2014: Dr. van Wijngaarden travels to Paris for a week of experiments at SOLEIL, the French synchrotron in collaboration with research teams from University of Cologne and Harvard-Smithsonian. September 4, 2014: We welcome two new graduate students Omar Mahassneh and Wenhao Sun into the group! They will use the far IR endstation to record fingerprint spectra with high resolution (0.0009 cm-1!!!) for their summer project. Virginia at Wise to run experiments for two weeks using our chirped-pulse FTMW instrument.May 5, 2014: James Singer joins the group as a summer research assistant. April 30, 2014: Dr. van Wijngaarden visits the CLS synchrotron to participate in the Users Advisory Committee meeting and Annual Users Meeting. December 1, 2011: Professor S. Shipman (New College of Florida) visits our lab to do experiments. November 4, 2011: The entire group departs for Waterloo to attend the Annual Symposium on Chemical Physics. Dr. van Wijngaarden will be presenting a plenary lecture and both Felix and Ming are presenting posters at the meeting! October 28, 2011: Dr. van Wijngaarden presents the latest group research at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. October 27, 2011: Cody van Dijk presents his summer research project at the annual VP Research Poster Competition at the University of Manitoba. October 20, 2011: Group member Cody van Dijk receives the Governor General’s Silver Medal at convocation!!! Congratulations Cody! September 12, 2011: Cody van Dijk joins our group as a technician to continue his research on substituted pyridines. August 29, 2011: Our paper on the synchrotron based infrared spectrum of furan was accepted for publication in the Journal of Molecular Spectroscopy.  July 23, 2011: Dr. van Wijngaarden is elected to the Canadian Light Source Users Advisory Committee for a 3 year term. July 5, 2011: Our chirped-pulse microwave study of trifluoroethylformate was accepted for publication in the Journal of Physical Chemistry A. July 5, 2011: Our manuscript on ring inversion tunnelling in the microwave spectrum of silacyclobutane was accepted by The Journal of Physical Chemistry A. June 20, 2011: Dr. van Wijngaarden and Felix Chen are off to Columbus, Ohio to attend the 66th International Symposium on Molecular Spectroscopy. Felix will be giving 2 talks!
