Research Focus

Dr. Vriend’s research deals with the effects of melatonin on thyroid hormone regulation and on neurotransmitters.   He has studied the effects of anti-convulsive drugs on audiogenic seizures in mice.  Recently Dr. Vriend has written several papers relating melatonin to the ubiquitin-proteasome system. Between 1981 and 1995 Dr. Vriend received grant support for his work on melatonin and the pineal gland and for his work on audiogenic seizures in mice, from the following agencies: Dr. Vriend still actively reviews research papers, and is currently working on writing manuscripts relating to his research on melatonin and the proteasome.
