Professional Interests


  Dr. Woodbury has served as an adviser to various governments, utilities, engineering companies and crown corporations  such as AECL. He has been a specialist consultant to the Saskatchewan Government on potash and uranium tailings contamination and  to the Center for Nuclear Waste Regulatory Analysis in San Antonio, Texas, for work at the Yucca Mountain nuclear repository. The focus of Dr. Woodbury's professional efforts is the role of groundwater in geotechnical, mining, environmental and water supply issues, particularly in a regulatory framework. These efforts involve investigations, assessment of remediation methods for contaminated waters and soils, water supply quality and quantity, engineering design, and the development and application of regulatory guidelines.

  •       Advisor to Manitoba Hydro on the Birthday-Gull site and Conapawa geothermics.

  •       Consultant to Wardrop Engineering Inc. on a bunker oil spill at The Pas, Manitoba.
  •      Consultation to Wardrop Engineering Inc. on groundwater flow and transport, Red River Floodway.
  •     Consultant to ID Engineering, Inc. on aquifer capacity and groundwater contamination in E. St. Paul and Springfield Municipalities.   

  •    Consultant to Northman Engineering on aquifer capacity investigations in northern First Nations communities.

  •       Computer modeling of the Assiniboine Delta Aquifer for Manitoba Water Resources.

  •       Public service work in regards to environmental hearings related to siting of a waste stabilization pond at Oak Point, MB.

  •      Peer review consultant to AECL at Pinawa, MB with regard to several tracer tests conducted in fractured rock.

  •     Specialist consultant to UMA Environmental, Winnipeg. Appeared as an expert witness at the Clean Environment Commission hearings with respect to siting of a municipal landfill in Rosser, MB.

  •      Consultant to UMA Environmental, Calgary. Review and design of soil and groundwater remediation of a contaminated site in Banff, Alberta.

  •     Analysis of the transport and fate of DDT contaminated groundwater at Rainy Hollow, B.C. for UMA Engineering.

  •      Groundwater resource development, Portage La Prairie, Manitoba

  •      Specialist consultant to the Center for Nuclear Waste Regulatory Analysis, San Antonio

  •      Specialist consultant to Saskatchewan Water.

  •      Consultant to Wardrop Engineering on the Red River Floodway expansion.

  •     Consultant to the MacKenzie Valley Land and Water Board (through Arktis Solutions, Inc.) for reviews of the Cantung Mine and other sites, NWT.

  •   Saskatchewan Environment. Specialist review of the environmental impact of a uranium tailings management facility at McClean Lake, potash mine reviews, oil sands development  and groundwater supplies.

     


Community Service:

Dr. Woodbury provided  pro-bona service to various groups, particularly in regards to environmental hearings of a proposed waste stabilization pond at Oak Point, MB. He has also reviewed a proposed particle strand-board plant siting at Hawk Lake, Ontario and  helped various homeowners with advice related to groundwater. He has been interviewed on Shaw TV, CBC radio and provided information to reporters from the Winnipeg Free Press.
