Remove Your UofM Personal Homepage

To remove your UM Homepage website from the Web, you must:

• log into your IST Linux account
• backup/archive your data, if desired
• remove the special web directory
• reset the permissions on your account

1. Login to your IST Linux account. (eg, via ThinLinc)
   And open a 'Terminal'
2. Archive your data (optional):
   At the Linux prompt:
   • tar -cf homepage.tar public_html
3. Remove your web directory:
   At the Linux prompt:
   • rm -rI ~/public_html
4. To properly secure your Home directory, remove the "world-readable" permissions:
   • chmod o-rwx ~/

If you no longer have access to your IST Linux account, you may request that your Homepage be removed on your behalf. This request may take several days to be completed.
