Only one genera is found in Manitoba. Most species are shrubs with the exception of Cornus canadensis which is a perennial herb. The leaves may be opposite or alternate, simple, entire, extipulate. The flowers are perfect and in four parts. The fruist is a small drupe with a two seeded stone.
