Euphorbiaceae - Spurge family

There is only one genus found in Manitoba. This genus is represented by erect or prostrate herbs with a milky juice. The flowers are uniseual, but with both sexes on the same plant. The sepals are reduced to a minute scale. There is an involucre resembling a calyx.

Euphorbia esula (Leafy spurge) is found in this family. The plant is extremely difficult to eradicate and is becoming very plentiful across the praries - an introduced plant.
