There is only one genus in this family found in Manitoba. Some sources put this genus in the Haloagaceae family. Aquatic plants with creeping rootstoks with simple unbranched stems. The leaves are linear and in whorls around the stem. The flowers are borne in the axils of the leaves, small inconspicuous lacking sepals and petals.
