Nyctaginaceae - Four-o'clock family

Only one genus is found in Manitoba. These perennial herbs have opposite, entire leaves without stipules. The stems are usually swollen at the notes. The flowers are are regular and perfect and lack petals, the sepals are brightly colored and petal-like and generally united into a bell-like tube. The flowers are usually in clusters with a saucer-like involucral bract beneath them.
