There are only two native species of this family found in Manitoba. American Elm which is very common in southern Manitoba and planted extensively through out as a shade tree. The Siberian Elm has been widely cultivated and often escapes. The Hackberry is only found rarely in the wild but has been planted widely has an ornamental.
Extensive damage has been caused to the American Elm from Dutch Elm Disease.
