Data is no longer accessible from off campus unless you log into the VPN.

December 10, 2018

Data from November 16 to December 10th is missing.

July 13, 2018

The point computer is no longer accessible from off campus. The data is now stored with the webpage.

September 15 2011

Changed the ftp protocl to http to facilitate the Android Browser. Changed some page sizes to look better on 1280x800 tablet.

October 26 , 2008

Whoops! The station computer reset to standard central time. Had to edit the DST using TZEdit. Changed weather station at 10.00am

September, 2008

The network switch has been changed at the point resulting in an ip address change for the weather station computer. Those of you who are accessing the weather station computer directly via anonymous ftp or http will have to change to the new ip address of 130.179.86.11

March 16, 2007

I updated the system for the new Daylight Saving Time at 11:00 am DST today. Therefore, the time from March 11th till now is out by 1 hour.

October 17 , 2006

Added an RSS feed so others can pick up the data. Connect at http://130.179.86.11/pointfeed.rss.

October 20 , 2005

The communications are up and running. The short-haul modems that acquire data from the station fried after a power outage. They've been replaced with better technology.

August 17, 2005

There's a hardware problem with the precipitation gauges. Repair will have to wait till August 22nd. Wallace bldg. shows 6.3 mm for the day.

March 17, 2005

The main network connection to "The Point" is being serviced. Hopefully everything will be back to normal by the 18th.

November 9, 2004

I've replaced the solar sensor with a new unit. Data should look ok by the 10th.

October 25, 2004

The primary temperature/rh sensor is back on-line.

October 4, 2004

I've removed the primary Temperature/Rh sensor and the Licor solar sensor so that I can send them into Campbell for service.
Temperatures for the front page and uminfo will come from the backup sensor.

May 12, 2004

I've realized that the jpeg graphs are not visible to everyone due to the loose jpeg file creation used. Since Vbasic cannot directly create jpeg I've recompiled the datagraph program to create a standard bmp file then found a good bmp->jpg conversion tool from http://www.disoft.com that I could incorporate into my code.

March 28, 2004

I've replaced the primary temperature data with data from the backup temperature sensor. From 5:30am to 9:00am this morning some real crazy temperature data (+26, +11°C) and RH data to 250% occurred. It's probably due to the extreme ppt. with cold. The relative humidity is still off and if the sensor doesn't come into line I'll have to order a replacement.

March 1, 2004

I've managed to get a temporary WinNT machine working till I can reconfigure the station computer as NT. Real-time graphing is on-line again.

February 18, 2004

I've mirrored the weather station computer on to a newly configured WinNT machine. So far all my charting software works great. I'll move the machines over sometime in the next couple of weeks so that I can offer real-time graphs again.

February 1, 2004

It appears that MSChart is having trouble running under Win95. Graphing is going to have to wait until I can find another way to build graphs or change the operating system.

January 26, 2004

Just added real-time graphs to the front page. The graphs are made with a little Visual Basic 6 program I wrote that reads the Campbell Scientific data file and uses MSChart to build the graph and export to a jpeg. I had some trouble scheduling my VB6 program. The PC208W program from campbell would crash on MSChart. I'm using a third party program called KirbyAlarm to schedule the graph builder.
Any ideas for future updates?

March 22, 2003

Changed the web page look and format. I included a new java-based menu system that I got from NavSurf. Hope you like it.

August 16, 2002

Had the privilege of helping Soil Science install a state of the art Campbell CR23X station in Carberry

June 10, 2002

The serving computer and the station had some time sync. problems on June 7th. I've installed an atomic clock update program but was forced to change the station to CDT at noon on June 10.

February 13, 2002

Good news. I've completed the upgrade from the old 386 33MHz win31 machine to a P233 Win95 machine. In the process I've gone to a newer 32 bit version of WFTPD (the ftp daemon used to serve up the weather data.) and can now support Netscape 6.2.

February 12, 2002

Looks like the weather station's ftp server does not support the new Netscape 6.2 browser (I've noticed that the new Netscape won't ftp to our novell server either). Hopefully the weather station upgrade I'm doing right now will fix the problem.

September 17, 2001

Hi

I've just completed a long overdue sensor and power update to the station.

After moving the station to make way for a new building I needed to reassess the power requirements. It appears that I can still run the station from a battery and auto charger from 300m away.

You may have noticed that relative humidity has been off all summer. Repairing that input meant swapping the old Campbell 207 sensor with a newer HMP45C. This meant that the primary air temperature sensor and the associated program had to be changed. The backup air temperature sensor is still functioning and appears to agree well with the new sensor. I also changed the soil temperature sensor. It was giving bad data when it got wet.
