What are we up to?

Current research projects
Much of the work our group does is geared towards better understanding how species’ interactions with their physical environment and each other influence their response to anthropogenic stressors.  We focus primarily on freshwater aquatic plants and invertebrates using both laboratory bioassays and simulated field enclosures, i.e., microcosms.  The hope is to better incorporate ecological theory, such as the Intermediate Disturbance Hypothesis, into our understanding of the changes a stressor can induce in aquatic systems.  In this way, the data and models generated will result in a more accurate ecological risk assessment process, and better environmental protection.

Research facilities
We have access to and run a number of research facilities and associated equipment.  These include:
NSERC funded spectrophotometers and other equipment.
The University of Guelph Microcosm Facility.
