Universities
- Manitoba has four universities, three of which are in Winnipeg.
- The University of Manitoba is internationally renowned for its agricultural research, business school, and engineering. It has 16 faculties, 4 schools, a Continuing Education Division, and a Natural Resources Institute. It has almost 24,000 students each year.

- The College Universitaire de Saint-Boniface, affiliated with the University of Manitoba, is an important centre for French learning in the prairie provinces.
- The University of Winnipeg houses the Institute of Urban Studies, known for its research into urban affairs. It serves over 7,000 students each year.

Colleges
- Manitoba has four colleges, two of which are in Winnipeg:
- Red River Community College provides training in various fields, from computer technology to automotive mechanics to paralegal studies. It has a student population of 28,000 to 30,000 full- and part-time students each year.

- Yellowquill College offers college and university preparation programs, as well as diploma programs in governance, business, social and health fields to approximately 180 students are enrolled in courses in the Portage la Prairie and Winnipeg campuses. The college is administered by the Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council.

- The other two colleges are:
- Assiniboine Community College delivers a wide range of programs throughout southwestern Manitoba. The college offers 26 full-time, on-campus day programs and three apprenticeship programs to a full-time enrollment of nearly 1,500. It is located in Brandon, Dauphin, Russell and Neepawa

- Keewatin Community College serves approximately 700 full-time students in Northern Manitoba. It houses an Aboriginal Resource Centre. It is located in The Pas, Churchill, Flin Flon, and Thompson.
