UMARS General Meeting
September 15, 1993
Present: Harry Lobo, Tom Tessier, Michael Markmann, Paula Ehn, Victor Lam, Bruce Haugh, Arne Grimstrup, Patrick Wong, Greg Bergman, Fern Saurette, Herman Alagao, and Henry Yogendran.
Meeting called to order at 6:05pm in 207 University Centre.
1. President's Address and Farwell Speech given by Harry Lobo
- i. Membership cards will be issued this year but have not been printed yet but shall be shortly.
- ii. Membership Dues were increased to $5 for licensed members but is still $2 for unlicensed members.
- iii. Password on the uumars UNIX account has been changed and will only be given to those interested in the account.
- iv. Briefly described previous battle with UMSU over room space and special club recognition.
- v. Reintroduced the idea of a newsletter and asked for volunteers. No response.
- vi. Door combination will be changed in early October to up hold security.
- vii. Briefly described past events and equipment available for members use.
2. Vice-President's Speech given by Tom Tessier
- Dr. Kinsner will be offering a radio course that will allow for the attainment of a basic license and a 12 wpm morse code course shall be offered following the basic course. Classes start on Monday, October 3, 1993 at 4:00pm and will cost $50 including books. Three unlicensed members were interested.
3. Secretary/Treasurer's Report given by Paula Ehn
- None.
4. Technical Manager's Report given by Michael Markmann
- Briefly talked about packet station, repeater and available radios for membership use in the club.
5. Election Results

- Vice-President: Patrick Wong (VE4 PHH)
- Secretary/Treasurer: Paula Ehn (VE4 MHZ)

Other Business:
- i. Arne Grimstrup suggested that Gary Mills from Computer Services be asked to forward all inquires to info.umars to the uumars UNIX account. Paula Ehn will look into it.
- ii. Arne Grimstrup also advised again that a letter should be sent to Computer Services to ask for donations of computer equipment that could benifit the club. Paula Ehn will look into it.
