IRLP stands for the Internet Radio Linking Project. It uses voice-over Internet Protocol or Voice_over-IP (VoIP). It links a repeater or a personal radio station to others around the world.
It was started by David Cameron, VE7LTD, of Vancouver, Canada, in 1997. He studied at the University of British Columbia, and was a member of the UBC Amateur Radio Club.
UMARS members are also members of the IRLP.
An application form is available.
The background , operational characteristics, system requirements, guidelines, linkages with Google Earth, embedded nodes, equipment packages, and related issues are described at the IRLP Web site. Links to IRLP are available elsewhere on this site.
