Pharynx

upper throat

At the bottom, the pharynx branches into two tubes:

• the esophagus [əˈsɑfəɡəs], which goes to the stomach
• the trachea [ˈtɹekiə], or windpipe, which goes to the lungs

The front wall of the pharynx is formed by the tongue root and the epiglottis
