[tʃ]

ɪkn̩]     chicken
[ˈneɹ̩]     nature
[wɪ]     which

The symbol [tʃ] appears to be an exception to the "one sound = one symbol" principle. We'll see later how it isn't really an exception. (For now, you can think of [tʃ] as a fancy single symbol that just happens to have a gap in the middle.)
