Each survey page begins with a schematic map that shows, for the relevant variable, the basic distribution of values across the family. The maps use the following layout, which roughly reflects the geographic distribution of the languages:

Central languages:
- Men = Menominee

- Oj-Al = Ojibwe-Algonquin

Eastern languages:
- Mkm = Mi'kmaq
- Pqy = Maliseet-Passamaquoddy
