The excavation of site 290 in Leptiminus
(Lamta, Tunisia) in 1995 - 1999
uncovered an industrial ceramic compound.
The southern trenches contained a row of five kilns, four of which were
fully excavated. They
were set on the hillside in a linear formation, a regional characteristic that
was evident at two other sites at the city of Leptiminus.
The area north of the main kiln site held a pottery workshop and
hydraulic water-work structures.
To judge from the ceramics, the complex appears to have been in use from
the mid first century AD to the mid third. |
