Bio
Dr. Qiuyan Yuan joined the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Manitoba in July of 2013 as an assistant professor. She earned her PhD degree from the University of Manitoba.
She has over 10 years of research experience in sustainable nutrient removal and recovery applied to wastewater and biosolids. Before joining U of M, she worked at Stantec Consulting Inc.
She received the University of Manitoba Merit Award (2018) and the Rh Institute Foundation Emerging Researcher Award (2019).

Research Interests
Dr. Yuan’s work focuses on sustainable environmental engineering solutions, particularly in nutrient removal and recovery. Her research includes:
- Biological & chemical phosphorus removal
- Leachate treatment and biomass fermentation
- Anaerobic digestion and carbon footprint reduction
- Community engagement to promote environmental awareness
