• Medical screening involves blood tests

• Probability you have the illness
  • is P(D), and that is 0.0001
  • prior probability

• You take the test, however there is a chance of a false positive.
  • Given that you have the illness, the probability of a positive test is P(S|D) = 0.99 (likelihood)
  • Note P(S’|D) is 0.01 (failed to detect)
