1. Be familiar
with how DNA, RNA and protein sequences are represented in the
common sequence file formats. Be able to explain the differences
between the formats discussed, and the advantages or disadvantages
of each. Be able to explain the meaning of how sequence features
are represented in the GenBank Features Table.
2. Gain an
understanding of how to work with sequences, based on the
following concepts:
the 5' to 3' directionality of DNA and RNA
the orientation of a DNA and RNA ie. original versus inverse
complement
the special problems associated with circular sequences
3. Learn how to
use the BioLegato interface to manipulate sequences and run
sequence programs.
