File Transfer Protocol (FTP) using Fetch
To access your UNIX account at U of M:
You must fill in the information specific to the location you are dialling. Since
you would like to access your CC (UNIX) account the Host Name is
ccu.cc.umanitoba.ca. Type your userid (e.g. umstu345) beside the label
User ID, and finally type in your CC (UNIX) password beside the
label Password.
To access anonymous ftp at U of M:
You must fill in the information specific to the location you are dialling. Since
you would like to access anonymous ftp, the Host Name is
ftp.cc.umanitoba.ca. You can leave the userid section blank, but the
password will be your email address (ie. umstu345@cc.umanitoba.ca).

Connecting:
Click on OK in the New Connection window to initiate a
connection to your remote files. The Fetch selection window has several
features. The window on the left corresponds to the Remote System.
You use this window to navigate your remote system (your account) and
choose a transfer directory.
How to:
download text |
Select TEXT file transfer by clicking the corresponding button on
the screen. Select the file(s) you wish to download with the mouse and
click on the button Get File. You must then choose a location to
store the file on your local system.

Select TEXT file transfer by clicking the corresponding button on
the screen. Open a directory on your remote system that you would like
to store the file in, then select Put File. You must then find the
file you wish to transfer on your local system. When you are ready click the
open button.

download binary |
Select Binary file transfer by clicking the corresponding button on
the screen. Select the file(s) with the mouse and click on the button
Get File. You must then choose a location to store the file on
you local system.

Select Binary file transfer by clicking the corresponding button on
the screen. Open a directory on your remote system that you would like
to store the file in, then select Put File. You must then find the
file you wish to transfer on your local system. When you are ready click the
open button.

Note: To select a group of files, click on the first file, hold down
the shift key, and then click on the last file. To select several files
that are not sequentially listed, click on the first file of interest,
hold down the control key, and continue to click on desired files until
all are highlighted.
When you initiate file transfer, a box will appear informing you of the
status of the file(s) that are being transferred. The time required and the
speed of transfer will continually update during the file transfer.
